Dzemeni Fisherman given outboard motor

Accra, Sept. 25, GNA – The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has presented a 25-horsepower outboard motor worth 16 million cedis to the Dzemeni Fishing Community in the Volta Region.

Mr Eddie Akita, Minister of State in charge of Fisheries, who made the presentation in Accra, said the donation was in recognition of the Community’s contribution towards the development of the Fishery Sector. The Minister charged other fishermen to emulate the Dzemeni fishermen to ensure greater fish catches.

Mr Akita said he got to know of their performance when he paid a working visit to the area about a month ago and advised them not to rest on their oars but to let the gesture motivate them to work harder to ensure their own development and that of the country as a whole. Receiving the motor on behalf of the community, the Headman of the Community, Tobge Okoe Tefutor II promised to ensure that it was put to judicious use.

Present at the presentation was Alhaji Salifu Flika, Vice-Chairman of the National Inland Canoe Fishermen Council. 25 Sept. 03
