NPP boycotts EC’s five-year strategic plan launch

Executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party on Tuesday refused to show up for the launch of the Electoral Commission’s five-year strategic plan, even though they were invited.

Representatives of the various political parties showed up at the event which the EC says is a roadmap towards enhancing the operations of the Commission for the years ahead.

Starr News’ Kwaku Obeng-Adjei who sat through the event and has gone through the register of people who attended the program said no attendee registered in the name of the largest opposition party. He said other officials registered in the name of their respective political parties and civil society organisations.

It is unclear why the NPP, which has been a long-running battle with the EC over the voters’ register, failed to show up for the event.

Meanwhile, the EC has justified the decision to stick to its controversial logo.

In an address at the event, the chairperson of the commission Charlotte Osei said the logo represents the independence of the election management body.

“The logo represents unity, singular and unified in purpose…we like it, we picked it, it makes us happy”.
