It has been established that people who bleach their skin stand a high risk of having mental problems.
This is because the chemicals used penetrate the inner layer of the skin into the blood system and finally to the brain.
Mr. David MacCauley, Deputy Director of Nursing, Accra Psychiatric Hospital, revealed this to the paper in an interview in Accra.
According to him, some of the mental cases brought to the hospital were due to overbleaching and cited the case of a nursing sister who over bleached her skin resulting in her death.
