Jake goes home today

A funeral rite in honour of the late former New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman, Jake Obestebi-Lamptey, will take place at the forecourt of the State House today, Friday April 22.

The ceremony, which will start with filing past of the body, is also expected to be interspersed with outpouring of tributes for the late former Minister of Tourism.

Those expected to be in attendance are NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, among other party faithful.

70-year-old Jake died on the night of Saturday March 19, 2016, at a hospital in London after a short illness.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey also served as Chief of Staff in the Kufuor administration.

He is credited with the rebranding of Valentine’s Day as Chocolate Day in Ghana. He is also credited for the introduction of Friday wears in Ghana, as part of measures to promote Made-in-Ghana goods.

His father was a member of the Big Six in Ghana’s political history. In 2007, he ran with 16 others in the NPP’s presidential primaries but lost.
