We can’t guarantee what will happen if verdict is stolen – NPP

The Acting National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay has stated that the party cannot guarantee the outcome of a stolen verdict in the November general elections.

According to him, inasmuch as they want to win the elections without any blemish, they do not want to be cheated.

He called for a level playing field for all political parties during the elections, saying they prefer that nothing untoward happens.

‘There ought to be a level playing field, if you don’t do so, you give me an impression that you are cheating me, twisting my arms, to even deny me what I have won, lots of things can happen. I cannot guarantee what will happen, the party cannot guarantee, we the executives, we who are at the top, the Presidential candidate cannot guarantee, if the ordinary people get angry, God forbid if they decide that they won’t agree to what is happening, and some people take the law into their own hands, what can we do?… Don’t rule out things could generate into something that we all don’t want.

Once there is a will, there is a way, and Ghanaians will definitely make that decision and we won’t allow people to steal the verdict of the people and allow incompetent, corrupt government to continue to be in office,’ he pointed out.

Asked on Ultimate breakfast show hosted by Lantam Papanko if they will compel the EC to play to their request, he charged the Supreme Court to place barriers on the excesses of the majority.

He accused the government of using state institutions to the detriment of Ghanaians.

“We are relying on the Supreme Court to play its role…other than that it will not augur well for all of us if people refuse to accept the results of an election; it has happened in several places in Africa and elsewhere,” he cautioned.

He indicated that they had been urged by a sect of Ghanaians not to allow the EC and the government short-change them this time round.

‘People are urging us not to allow the EC and the government to cheat us, don’t allow the EC to be manipulated by coming out with results that are not our verdict, so we are working hard at it,’ he said.
