Director of Elections for the NPP says it would be in the Electoral Commission’s own interest to publish its contract with Superlock Technologies Limited (STL) to redeem the EC’s battered image.
Martin Agyei-Korsah told TV3 Midday Wednesday the hullabaloo surrounding the role of the Israeli company, in Ghana’s electoral process, cannot be put to rest anyhow after the matter was further muddy by contradictory statements from two key state institutions.
The Interior Ministry first contradicted EC’s position in 2012 when the Ministry in a statement March this year claimed the STL was contracted by the EC to transmit election results.
But the EC has rejected the ministry’s claims and defended its earlier position.
Deputy Commissioner at the EC, Georgina Opoku Amankwaa, on Tuesday, April 12 said: “Transmission of result was never the work of STL and Dr Afari Gyan, the former Chairman of the Commission, had always been emphatic on this fact.”
But the New Patriotic Party insists the matter cannot be dismissed without a publication to back the Commission’s position.
The EC should accept a challenge from the Interior Ministry to publish the role of STL in Ghana’s election after the ministry insisted that the Israeli company was hired to assist the EC in transmitting election results, Mr. Agyei-Mensah Korsah later told Joy News.
“We cannot dismiss this matter…The Electoral Commission is suffering this dwindling integrity,” he explained the party’s demand.
