Two arrested and detained over car theft

Two people have been arrested and detained by the police in Kumasi over the theft of a Toyota Hilux pick up.

The pair, Antwi Duku and Abdulai Shaibu Gafaro, had escaped with the vehicle to the Northern Region but were apprehended through the aid of a tracking device installed in it.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Peter Baba, the Ashanti Regional Crime Officer, said the offence was committed on April 10, at about 1900 hours.

The MTN branded pick up had been parked in front of the residence of a Sales Controller of the telecommunication company at TUC – an upscale area in Kumasi.

ACP Baba said the man woke up the next morning to find that the vehicle was missing and a formal report was made to the police.

He said aided by the tracking device, it was traced to the Northern Region, and the suspects seized.

They had replaced the registration number and given it a new color to avoid detection.

The Crime Officer said one of the suspects, Antwi has been on the police wanted list for a similar offence.
