NPP to win seven seats in Volta Region -Commey

Ho, Sept. 19, GNA – Mr Commey said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was confident to win seven out of the 19 seats in the Volta Region in the 2004 General Elections thereby reducing drastically the votes of the National Democratic Party there.

Mr Commey, who is leading a team of party executives to vet 55 parliamentary aspirants from 18 constituencies in the Volta Region, said this in an interview with the GNA in Ho.

The exercise, which started from the southern part of the region on Thursday in Ho, will continue at Hohoe on Friday for the northern sector.

Mr Commey said the vetting would enable the NPP to known the background of the aspirants in order to prevent any embarrassment for the party in the future.

He said the party’s constitution spell out that contestants should be members of the NPP for at least three years.

Mr Commey, however, said any person who has been a member of the party for two years and has donated towards the party’s progress was eligible to run for parliamentary elections.
