Management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital is appealing to the protesting staff of the laboratory unit for a round-table discussion on the raging controversy over the privatisation of its laboratory.
The appeal is contained in a memo written to the laboratory staff and other sister Professional Associations in the hospital.
The memo written by the acting Chief Executive Dr. Abass Adam and intercepted by Starr News is inviting the irate Lab staff to a meeting on Tuesday.
“I write on behalf of the Chief Executive to acknowledge the receipt of your memo dated 6th April, 2016. We have considered all the issues raised in your memo and wish to inform you that there shall be a meeting between management and the staff of the laboratory on 12th April, 2016,” the letter noted.
According to sources at the facility, management of the facility is likely to announce the withdrawal of the decision to outsource the lab services.
The Premiere hospital in the Northern region has recently become a ground for protest and agitations. The laboratory staff are fighting management’s decision to engage a private individual in the management of some laboratory service
The staff had issued a 72-hour ultimatum to management to rescind the decision to outsource the lab service. The staff said failure to do so they “would do everything within the limits of the law to put a stop to this intended arrangement which we believe is not in the best interest of the stakeholders”
Meanwhile, reliable information available to Starr News indicates that the Chief Executive of the hospital, Mr. Akangbon Prosper, has been summoned to Accra to answer queries over the ‘unilateral decision’ to outsource the laboratory services of the hospital.
