Tension at K’dua ‘Awona town’ over new fuel station

Tension is mounting in the Anlo Township, popularly known as Awona by natives, in the New Juaben Municipality in the Eastern region as residents vow to stop the construction of a fuel station by a private investor.

The residents fear the project could cause disaster in future due to its closeness to houses in the community.

To express their displeasure, the residents poured on the streets last night to protest and appeal to the owner to suspend the project and relocate the facility.

They accused its owner of intimidating them with arms and dangerous weapon wielding Machomen brought in from Accra.

One of the irate residents told Starr News they will resist the construction of the station at the location.

“That area is dangerous so we are begging him, he should relocate it. A filling station should be at the outskirt of the town not in the middle of the town,” he said.

An assembly member in the area Sampson Akumani told Starr news the residents have petitioned the Eastern regional Minister over the issue and are yet to receive a response.
