Nzema East forges ahead in development

Axim (W/R), Sept. 17, GNA – The bulk of funds allocated to the Nzema East district assembly from 2001 to date have been channelled into education, health, water, roads, sanitation and electrification. Mr Kojo Armah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, said the funds were from the district assemblies’ common fund, Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and donor agencies.

He said the assembly had spent about 2.7 billion cedis on the construction of classroom blocks for 20 selected communities. Mr Armah said the assembly also refurbished the Kikam Technical Institute and equipped it with modern machines to enable it turn out competent graduates capable of facing the global technological advancement.

He said the assembly had provided a large quantity of electricity poles and transformers valued at 600 million cedis to eight communities in the district.

The beneficiary communities are Anagye, Nantiem, Apetiem, Bokazo, Akotokrom, Anokye, Alabokazo and Baku.

The DCE said a 10-km Essiama-Telebokazo road, which was being tarred was nearing completion while the road linking eight other communities to Axim had also been upgraded to enhance transportation of foodstuffs to the marketing centres.

The assembly, the DCE said, had also sunk 20 boreholes at the cost of 64 million cedis each for six communities, which suffered from water borne diseases. They are Apetiem, Natiem, Ankyeyin, Atakrom, Bokazo and Adabrim.

Mr Armah said the assembly had built a students’ hostel and a classroom block for the ‘World Alive’ Nurses Training College at Essiama at the cost of 1.4 billion cedis from the HIPC fund. 17 Sept. 03
