Incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West Constituency, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has won the ticket to contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the November 7 parliamentary polls.
Madam Ursula had 554 votes while her only competitor, Roni Kwesi Nicole, managed 317, with five rejected ballot papers, according to provisional results.
Shortly after the counting ended, Mr Nicole conceded defeat and congratulated Madam Ursula and told Class FM’s Ekow Annan that he stands for the unity of the party.
He indicated that: “I know that she has put in a lot of efforts so, just after the counting, I went over to congratulate her.”
He also indicated that he would support the winner and also work towards a victory for the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, in the November 7 general elections.
Earlier, a third candidate, Theophilus Tettey, withdrew at the eleventh hour in protest against the use of two different registers for the poll.
Prior to the elections, the constituency’s acting chairman, his vice, women’s organiser, and ten other constituency executives, resigned citing manipulations to favour the incumbent.
A total of 1200 delegates were expected to cast their votes but more than 400 of them were reported to have also boycotted the elections over the use of two registers.
