Government lifts curfew in parts of Dagbon

Accra, Sept. 17, GNA – The government on Wednesday announced a partial lifting of the curfew in parts of Dagbon Traditional Area. A statement signed by Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Minister of the Interior said the curfew in Tolon-Kumbungu, Savelugu-Nanton, Gushegu-Karaga and Zabzugu-Tatale Districts has been lifeted.

The statement said the government took that action in view of the recent positive developments in the area and in line with Section 5 (4) of the Emergency Powers Instrument, 2003 (El.1). The curfew is, however to continue to be in operation in the Tamale Municipality and the Yendi District, with the curfew hours remaining at from midnight to 0400 hours.

The statement advised the public to cooperate in ensuring peace and tranquillity in Dagbon.

In a related development, government has directed that the curfew in Bawku East District should be lifted with immediate effect due to the recent peaceful situation in that area.
