Court fines scrap dealer for attempting to steal

An 18-year old scrap dealer has been fined GH¢960.00 for attempting to steal two Multi-TV decoders and a television set.

In default, the convict, Haruna Sumaila, would serve thirty days imprisonment in hard labour.

He pleaded guilty to stealing and unlawful entry.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the Court, presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, that the complainant is Reverend James Nti Bediako, a Methodist Church Priest at Wassa Akropong in the Amenfi East District while the convict is a scrap dealer.

He said on February 28, around 1830 hours, the complainant and his family left for evening church service.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said when he returned home around 2130 hours, he realised that the flat screen television set in his hall had been placed at the entrance of the house.

He said Rev Bediako proceeded to the hall and met Sumaila holding two sets of his Multi-TV decoders and when he asked him what he was doing with the items, the convict could not offer any tangible explanation.

The convict was apprehended and handed over to the police for prosecution.

The prosecutor said Sumaila admitted the offence in his caution statement and asked for forgiveness.
