Okyenhene’s ban on NDC executives act of discrimination – NDC

Eastern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has hit back at the Kyebi Executive Council, describing as an act of discrimination their decision to ban two of their executives from entering the Okyenhene’s palace.

The council has banned the Eastern Regional Chairman and Regional Youth Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Bismark Tawiah Boateng and Apau Haruna Owiredu from stepping foot in the Okyehene’s palace (Ofori Panin Fie) for what the council claim is the the disrespect and insults hurled at the paramountcy over the past three years.

A statement issued and signed by the Eastern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Kevor Mark-Oliver said such conduct of the Council was “unfatherly” and speaks against Okyenhene’s role as the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, since other political parties have unrestricted access to the Akyem Abuakwahene and his palace.

The statement said: “It is worth mentioning that once the Akyem Abuakwahene or any other person makes any statement or expresses his opinion that has political undertones, we in the NDC as a political party have our God given right to respond appropriately in a respectful manner and that is what we have always sought to do”

It said the NDC respects the chieftaincy institution in the region, and would do no such thing that will dent the image and sanctity of the traditional council, calling on the Akyem Abuakwahene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin II to rescind the decision taken on the two and treat all political parties equal.
