Be ambassadors of road safety –NRSC urges media

The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has appealed to the media to disseminate appropriate information that would keep the citizenry abreast with road safety measures.

According to Director of Planning and Programmes at the NRSC, Mr. David Adonteng, the major contributory factor that has given rise to the spate of road accidents in the country is inadequate public education.

He also called on the various security forces as well as the DVLA, MTTD, MMDAs, and the GPRTU to support it to reduce the carnage on the road.

He made these remarks in Accra at a media briefing to launch the Easter road safety campaign organized by the Commission.

The project is intended to devise means to safeguard the citizenry from vehicular and motor accidents before, during and after the Easter festivity.

The yearlong initiative would see the NRSC organising sensitization programmes in Churches, mosques, shopping malls, and use of social media to educate the public on safety measures on the country’s roads.

The NRSC also made a passionate appeal to drivers in the country to be conscious of the safety of their passengers and pedestrians.

The Commission also warned drivers to eschew the habit of overspeeding, saying that only institutions such as Fire and Ambulance Services, Armed Forces and the Police, among other recognized entities are exempted from overspeeding due to the nature of their jobs.
