Old Tafo curfew reviewed

The Minister for Interior has on the advice of the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and by executive instrument reviewed the curfew hours imposed on Old Tafo Township from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am effective Friday 25 March 2016.

According to a press release signed by the Minister for Interior, Prosper D.K.Bani, it assured that the Ministry will continue to rely on REGSEC for updates on the situation in the area.

‘Government continues to express its appreciation to the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and the people of the area,’ it expressed appreciation.

The statement entreated residents to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, urging them to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Old Tafo Township and surrounding areas from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon.

‘Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and persecuted,’ it warned.

A curfew was imposed on Old Tafo Township after Tafo youth clashed with traditional authorities some months ago resulting in vandalising of public and private properties and death of one person.
