Accra, Sept. 13, GNA- The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) phase two development project is expected to be completed early next year. The project, estimated at 116 million US dollars, will put KIA as trade, investment and tourism and transport gateway in the sub-region. Captain Joe Boakyie, Director General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said this when he interacted with the media on Friday. He said under the Ghana Investment Trade and Development programme, KIA is to be renovated to enhance passenger movements and business transactions.
Captain Boakyie said over the past year, the Airport runaway has been extended from 2,987 metres to 3,403 metres and that the dedicated parting apron has been constructed off the cargo terminal with a capacity to take a three wide body aircraft.
There has also been terminal works comprising the real modern and expansion of the terminal building especially the passenger checkpoint, separating of the Arrival and Departure halls on different levels. He said additional space has also been created for shops, restaurant and Internet caf=E9 among other facilities.
