3 arrested SA ex-officers granted bail

An Accra Circuit Court has granted a bail plea by the three South African ex-police officers who were arrested on Sunday by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

The trio have been in custody since Sunday for allegedly engaging in activities which could compromise the security of Ghana.

Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (rtd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 pleaded not guilty after being charged with unlawful training and false declaration on Thursday.

They were granted bail to the tune of Gh¢20,000 with two sureties.

The three were arrested for training private security personnel of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

The Head of Nana Addo’s security team Captain (rtd) Edmund Koda and the owner of the EL-Capitano Hotel Captain (rtd) Acquah who were also arrested on Wednesday and released on bail have also been charged.

The trio were arrested at the El Capitano Hotel in Agona Duakwa for allegedly training 15 young men in various security drill and rapid response maneuvers, weapon handling, and VIP protection techniques.
