Abakrampa residents enjoy free health screening

Residents of Abakrampa, in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) District of the Central Region, have received free eye and ear screening as part a Parliamentary candidate’s routine health promotion exercise.
The exercise, sponsored by Dr. Ekow Samuel Hayford, the National Democratic Congress’ candidate, was also aimed at educating the residents on the dangers of eye and ear diseases.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Dr. Hayford said the gesture formed part of his Social Responsibility to the community and also a way of expressing his gratitude to them for voting massively for him in the NDC parliamentary primary.

He said similar exercises had been organised at Asafona, Moree, Asebu, Abura Dunkwa, Abakrampa SHS and Ayeldo, all in the AAK Constituency.

He pledged to continue to assist the people to help solve their health, education and economic needs should they vote for him as their Member of Parliament.

He said because of the hazardous activities in the Community, most residents faced eye and ear related diseases, hence the need to bring optical service to the door steps of the less privileged in the area.

Dr. Hayford, who is also the Dean of Faculty of the Institute of Educational Studies, University of Education Winneba, urged the residents to desist from any form of violence in the upcoming elections, but ensure that there was peace throughout the period.

Mr. Amantus Montii, the Manager of Low Vision at the Eye Care Unit, of the Ghana Health Service, advised the residents to visit the eye clinic regularly and also go for eye check-ups at least twice every year, to be able to detect any eye disease early.

He said the eye was a very delicate part of the body and the washing of the face at least five times a day, together with eating lots of fruits and vegetables, could help to keep it strong.

More than 500 residents benefited from the exercise, which provided free eye glasses to those who required glasses them.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to the GNA expressed their gratitude to Dr. Hayford for the gesture and expressed the hope that more of such health screening exercises would be organised regularly to provide health care to those who could not afford it.
