NPP’s unfairness led to Jake’s death – Boniface

The Member of Parliament for Nabdam Constituency in the Upper East Region, Boniface Gambila Adagbila says the New Patriotic Party was not fair to the late former National Chairman of the party Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey.

Although the Nabdam legislator was not forthright as to what exactly the NPP had done against the late chairman, he only said Jake needed something that the party did not give him.

“We were not fair to Jake. I mean NPP has not been fair to him. He needed something but we denied him, I can say for a fact that NPP has not been fair to Jake,” the Nabdam MP stressed.

The news of Jake’s demise hit the nation in the early hours of Sunday 20th March 2016. He was credited with helping the NPP win both 2000 and 2004 presidential elections which saw then-candidate John Agyekum Kufuor becoming Ghana’s President.

After serving in various capacities under Kufuor’s administration including being a Chief of Staff and Information Minister, he took a shot at the chairmanship of the NPP in 2010 and won after he unsuccessfully tried the flagbearer position of the party with 16 others. He lost his re-election bid to NPP’s suspended chairman Paul Afoko in Tamale in 2014.

Speaking on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwen program, Boniface Gambila suggested that if the chairmanship was given to Jake Obetsebi Lamptey at the Tamale Congress, he would not have died.

“I think we should have given him (Jake) the chairmanship. We have not been fair to him. He was of high spirit that he was going to win, but it seem people didn’t like him hence they did not support him” Mr. Gambila added.

He maintained that because Jake did not get what he wanted, he was relegated to the background, adding Jake “would have steered the affairs of the party differently”.
