South Africa to fund dredging of Sekondi Naval Base

Beposo (W/R), Sept. 11, GNA – Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, Minister of Defence, said on Wednesday that the South African government is considering funding the dredging of the Sekondi Naval Base. He was speaking to newsmen when he visited an outreach clinic mounted by a medical team of the United States Navy at Beposo, near Sekondi.

Dr Addo Kufuor said a South African delegation would visit the Naval Base next month to assess the project and to find out how South Africa could contribute to the development of the Ghana Navy. He said the visit of the US Navy medical team would strengthen the cordial relationship between the United States and Ghana. Dr Addo Kufuor had earlier visited the Naval Base and held closed-door meeting with personnel at the Base.

The medical team provided medical, dental and eye care services and immunized people.

Eight communities in the Western Region would benefit from the two-week outreach programme.
