ECG cuts supply to Dansoman Polyclinic over debt

Management of the Dansoman Polyclinic are reeling from a GHC146,000 debt owed the Electricity Company of Ghana as the latter cut power supply to the facility.

The weekly consumption of the Polyclinic is in the region of GHC6,000.

According to management, government was supposed to pay the bills on their behalf but cannot explain why government forfeited in honouring its obligation.
The entire Dansoman Polyclinic has been in darkness since Wednesday, March 16, 2016.

This has compelled doctors there to relocate their consulting rooms to the forecourt of the polyclinic.

According to the Medical Superintendent of the Polyclinic, Dr. George Aubynn, power supply to the facility was disconnected on Wednesday without prior notice.

He lamented that the development has made their work extremely difficult.

He said the Electricity Company of Ghana acted contrary to the directive from the government (the Power Ministry), asking that health institutions be excluded from its mass disconnection exercises.

The Head of Finance, Margaret Agbenyengah Avoka said the clinic had spent GHC900 diesel to fuel the generator set, which could not even serve the entire clinic in less than 24 hours.

The authorities say they may be compelled to close down the facility, if steps are not taken to address the challenge.
