Society must not let down the youth – Priest

The Superintendent Minister of the Effiduase Circuit of the Methodist Church, the Very Reverend Joseph Galley, has called for the society to make youth development an urgent priority.

He said more should be done to give hope to the present generation of young people to help pull them back from the path of self-destruction.

He was speaking at the education week celebration of the Methodist Complex Schools at Effiduase near Koforidua.

“Upholding the Wesleyan identity in Methodist schools for social impact” was the theme chosen for the event.

The Very Rev Galley expressed concern about the growing indiscipline among the youth and said society could not afford to let them down.

He reminded parents to have time for their children despite the work and economic pressures, pointing out that, this was important to protect them from bad peer influence.

Again, they should be aided to become God-fearing and to uphold the values of integrity and service to humanity.

Mr. Emmanuel Ofori, assembly member for the Darmang electoral area, spoke of the need for school children to be properly supervised in the home and discouraged from watching television programmes and movies meant for adults.

He also asked teachers, particularly those in public schools, to perform their job with strong commitment and passion to improve academic performance.

Ms. Freda Opata, the head teacher of the Effiduase Junior High School (JHS), said they were determined to combine academic excellence and good moral training.
