South African Breweries Take Over Accra Brewery

Accra, (Greater Accra) 31 Oct., South African Breweries (SAB) has taken over 51 per cent controlling shares in Accra Brewery Limited from Overseas Breweries Limited of Sweden, the Managing Director of SAB Mr. Andre Parker said yesterday. A statement in Accra today said Mr. Parker told Vice President John Atta Mills that SAB’s investment in ABL marks the first major South African venture in Ghana outside the mining industry and its first investment in West Africa. The statement said the Vice-President was happy about SAB’s decision to do business in Ghana which, he said, is a result of the government’s investment drive and commitment to create a favourable investment climate. ”We may not be perfect at it yet, but our strong point is that we are always prepared to sit down with investors and discuss any problems that may arise.”
