Man remanded for acid attack in Tarkwa

The Tarkwa Circuit Court has remanded in custody a security man for inflicting acid burns on his friend.

The accused, Mathias Ahobreh, 36, is said to have poured acid on Baba Musah at Tarkwa, after accusing the victim of camping his (Ahobreh’s) girlfriend in his room.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court that on February 27, Baba was resting in his room when Ahobreh barged in with a barrage of accusations over his girlfriend.

He said Musa denied the charge and though Ahobreh saw Musa was alone in the room, he was unconvinced. Ahobreh left Musah’s room while Musah went back to sleep.

But at 11pm, Ahobreh re-entered Musah’s room, with a container in hand. He jolted Musah out of his sleep and bathe his face with the corrosive substance.

Ahobreh went into hiding after the incident but the police managed to arrest him with the assistance of locals.

He is to reappear in court at a later date for hearing to continue.
