Ghanaians Urged To Know The Constitution

Winneba (Central Region), 31 Oct., Ghanaians have been urged to acquaint themselves with the provisions of the constitution to enable them to offer their best for the socio-economic growth of the country. ”It is only when the people become conversant with the contents of the constitution that they will know exactly what they should do to sustain democracy in the country”, Dr. J. E. Oppong Deputy Chairman of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said yesterday. He was addressing workers of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya district secretariat of the NCCE as part of a day’s visit to the area. He commended institutional heads in the district for their contributions towards the establishment of constitution study clubs in their schools and charged NCCE officers in the district to offer effective supervisory and monitoring services to enable the clubs perform creditably. Dr. Oppong suggested the formation of similar clubs in all social organizations and communities in the country to create the necessary awareness among the people to know their constitutional rights and responsibilities. He asked NCCE workers to intensify their education activities to explain issues to the people, especially the illiterates, to enable them to know and understand the contents of the constitution properly. The Deputy Chairman was conducted round by Mr. Albert K. Sam, Awutu-Effutu-Senya district director of the commission.
