K’Bu Eye Clinic closed down

The Eye Clinic at Ghana’s premier health centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, has been closed down.

A letter dated February 29, 2016 and signed by the head of the clinic, Dr Edith Dogbe, said the centre was to be closed down Monday March 7, 2016.

Dr Dogbe said the closure had become necessary “following several concerns regarding excessive heat at the Eye Clinic”.

She further stated that the heat waves had caused some patients to collapse, while others attacked staff.

“In order to avert any unpleasant incident caused by the heat, the management, in consultation with unit heads, have decided to close down the facility from Monday 7 March 2016 unless there is significant improvement in the working environment before this date,” the letter concluded.
