Ashanti Region records 471 fires in 2 months – Minister

The Ashanti Regional Minister John Alexander Ackon has revealed that the region recorded 471 fire cases between January and February, 2016.

The Regional Minister disclosed this during this year’s Independence Day parade celebration at Jubilee Park in Kumasi on Sunday 6 March, 2016.

The most recent place to be hit by fire in the region was a 15-bedroom house at Maakro junction in Kumasi where the inferno destroyed properties worth millions of Ghana cedis on Saturday evening.

Various business areas such as Suame and Kumasi Central Market have also not been spared of fire outbreaks this year.

He entreated residents to adopt preventive measures by being cautious of fire safety practices to prevent further infernos from occurring.

He advised the youth to desist from hunting which causes havoc to farmers in the region.
