Ghana@59: Celebrations in Accra photos

Ghana yesterday celebrated her 59th year of Independence from the British colonial rule on March 6, 1957.

As part of preparations to mark the day, parades were held in all the regional and district capitals of the country on the theme: “Investing in the Youth for Ghana’s Transformation.”

Christians across the country dedicated the Sunday Church Service to pray for the nation.

The occasion was graced by dignitaries and members of the diplomatic corps, traditional and religious leaders as well as members of the public.

Ghana gained independence from British colonial rule on 6th March 1957. At midnight on that day, Kwame Nkrumah, the first Prime Minister of Ghana, then Gold Coast, declared the country free from the rule of the Queen of England.
