Allowance restoration promise populist – NDC

Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has described as populist, the New Patriotic Party flagbearer’s promise to restore the teacher trainee allowance when he wins the November polls.

Mr Anyidoho has also challenged Nana Akufo-Addo, to outline exactly how he intends restoring teacher trainee allowances.

The challenge follows the promise made by Mr Akufo-Addo on Monday when he delivered his counter State of the Nation Address to that of President John Mahama.

Mr Anyidoho told Class News in an interview that the allowances were removed at the instance of the institutions.

“He is talking about restoring teacher trainee allowance. What is more populist than that? How does he intend to generate the revenue to restore that allowance,” he asked.

“That allowance was not removed because the government was wicked. It was removed because the teacher training institutions requested so from government, so, they stop the quota system and allow more teachers or more trainees to be admitted into these institutions.”
