EC boss hunting near retiring directors out – Fmr. EC Chief Director

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Charlotte Osei, has written to all directors and senior staff of the electoral body who are due for retirement to proceed on leave.

Her action forms part of plans to bring on board fresh minds to help in the day-to-day running of the Commission.

But a former Chief Director of the Electoral Commission, Kwame Damoah Agyemang, has described her action as misplaced because the country has barely 9 months to go for the general election.

He told Fiifi Banson in an interview on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM on Monday that the fast pace at which the EC wants to run the Commission leaves much to be desired.

“I have heard that she has issued a directive for all directors whose retirement is due to apply and proceed on their accumulative leave. Those who are about to retire are the senior-most people in the system which the Chairperson could have tapped into their expertise before allowing them to go”.

“This is because we are in an election year and therefore if we do that, we are throwing away the experience they have gained. This will not help anyone,” he noted.

To Mr. Agyemang, the EC boss should hasten with caution since her actions could be a recipe for chaos as witnessed in some countries.
