The Inspector General of Police John Kudalor has set aside Thursdays to welcome and deal with concerns of personnel of the service.
According to him, the initiative will among other things help disgruntled police officers secure fair hearing on issues of maltreatment by their commanders.
Personnel of the service currently do not have a functional complaints unit at the IGP’s office.
The new IGP told the media he will make a conscious effort to address concerns of personnel in spite of the challenges that may come with the policy.
“I am operating an open door policy where I listen to the views of as many police personnel as possible on weekly basis.
“I know this sound very challenging but I am determined to prosecute that agenda. The aim of this policy is not to victimize any commander or undermine their efforts, it’s purely on policy basis. And the objective is to seek broader consensus to serve our personnel…for now, I have set aside every Thursday between the hours of 11am to 2pm for every personnel to fully access my office to get answers to very pertinent issues,” he stated.
