Kintampo crash very sad news – Mahama

The Kintampo car crash which killed at least more than 40 people on Wednesday February 17 is a “very sad news”, President John Mahama has said.

Mr Mahama wrote on Facebook that he “received the sad news of an accident involving an M.M.T. Bus on the Kintampo-Tamale road. Condolences to those who’ve lost loved ones. Emergency services working to attend to injured passengers, Very sad news.”

The head-on collision between the Metro Mass Transit bus and a truck loaded with tomatoes occurred at about 8.30pm on the Kintampo-Tamale highway.

Eyewitnesses said the MMT bus had its engine falling out upon impact, with some passengers still trapped underneath the bus.

Only one person survived the crash and was being rushed to the hospital as of the time of filing this report.

Kia trucks arrived at the scene to cart away bodies to the Kintampo Government Hospital mortuary, as Kintampo has no functioning ambulance.

The police and other security persons have arrived at the scene to control the situation. The accident has resulted in a massive gridlock.
