Organise communal work – Unit c’ttee members urged

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) in the Western region has inducted the newly- elected unit committee members into office at the forecourt of the Assembly.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of STMA, Hon. Charlotte Otuwa Odum, consequently called on the unit committee members to supervise the staff of the assembly and as well assign duties for them.

She also promised to take all legal means to abate any nuisance in their communities.

According to the MCE, the committee members were to serve as focal point for the discussion of local problems and to take actions where necessary or make recommendations to the assembly, through the sub-metropolitan district council concerned.

She added that it was part of their duties to help organise communal voluntary work, especially in the area of sanitation.

Hon. Otuwa Odum thus cautioned them not to use their positions to intimidate people.

For his part, the chairperson for occasion, Nana Kofi EbunaV, explained that the unit committee was there to support the assembly members in the community, and to help develop the area.
