Graphic Chapter was notified twice to update its dues -GJA

Accra, Aug. 30, GNA- The National Executive of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at the weekend stated that it notified the Graphic Chapter, twice to update its dues before the filing of nominations for the association’s election of national officers.

Mr Bright Blewu, General Secretary of the GJA told the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview that two reminders, dated May 29th and June 30th, were addressed to the Graphic Chapter of the association with attention to Mr Vance Azu, requesting that its members their obligations as members of the GJA by paying their dues up to date.

“The first one was even copied to the Managing Director”, Mr Blewu said in reaction to allegations from some quarters that the national executive deliberately failed to notify Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo, the disqualified presidential candidate in the GJA polls for failing to pay his dues.

He said: “there was no way the GJA could be blamed if a member fails to honour his or her obligation”.

Mr Boadu-Ayeboafo won the GJA polls but was subsequently disqualified after it was discovered that he was not a member in good standing of the association as regards his dues.

A committee set up to investigate the matter subsequently declared Mr Yaw Owusu Addo who was the runner-up in the polls, winner and president-elect on the basis that he actually contested unopposed.
