U/E: 2 drown on Val’s Day

A 24-year-old man has drowned in a dam at Bongo in the Upper East Region on Valentine’s Day.

The deceased, who was identified as Anyanbe Atubire, died after reportedly participating in a swimming competition with his colleagues, as part of activities on Valentine’s Day.

Class FM’s Upper East regional correspondent, William Jalulah, reported that another individual named Nyaaba Attawine, a 26-year-old member of a rescue party organised to retrieve the body of Anyanbe, also got drowned as his colleagues helplessly watched him die.

The Bongo District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Paul Ankan, who confirmed the incident, said the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Bongo-Soe Clinic awaiting autopsy.

According to him, “We’ve invited the medical superintendent to be at the scene. He is going to examine the bodies and, if possible, determine the cause of death and release the bodies to the families for burial.”
