The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to pay the full cost of the GHS3.6million in the controversial rebranding of the 116 buses.
It is recalled government asked Smarttys, the company hired to rebrand the Metro Mass buses to pay back GHS1.5 million after the Chief of Staff caused an investigation into the contract awarded by the Transport Ministry.
Communications Director of the NPP Nana Akomea, addressing the media at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Tuesday February 16, said the bus re-branding was a means of advertisement for the president and needed to be stopped.
In his words: “This business of using taxpayers’ money to put President Mahama’s photographs and to campaign for him should be stopped.
“If President Mahama wants to advertise himself, he should pay for the advertising.
“Using tax payer’s money to pay for this naked advertising is wrong so we demand that that policy should be scrapped and as a consequence we demand that the NDC pays the entire amount that the advertising cost the tax payer. That refund …the entire GHS3.6million cedis, should be refunded.”
