MTN Ghana Foundation targets 1,200 pints of blood

MTN Ghana Foundation is expected to collect 1,200 pints of blood from nine bleeding centres across the country.

Last year, the Foundation set to collect 700 pints but exceeded that target and collected 1,135.

Mr Cynthia Lumor, the Executive Director, MTN Ghana Foundation speaking at the 2016 edition of ”Save a Life”; the annual blood donation exercise instituted by the company, said “we want to push ourselves harder, so we have set that target”.

She said the collection centres include Accra, Cape Coast, Secondi, Takoradi, Tarkwa, Kumasi, Asante Mampong, Tamale and Bolga.

She expressed the hope that the blood collected would go a long way to supplement the needs of the selected blood banks.

Mr Lumor said it is the Foundation’s hope that with the continued help of all volunteers, Ghana would achieve the World Health Organization goal of obtaining 100 per cent voluntary and unpaid blood donation by 2020.

She in the five years of the existence of the exercise the Foundation has collected more than 2,000 pints of blood for various medical facilities across the country.

“We appreciate the kind-heartedness of all the people who have volunteered to be blood donors as well as the support received from a variety of partners,” she added.
