Mourners involved in fatal accident

One person has been confirmed dead while 12 others are receiving treatment following a motor crash at Kyekyewere along the Eastern region stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The remains of Emmanuel Azona, 30, who died on the spot has been conveyed to the Suhum Government Hospital morgue. According to health officials, three of the victims are in critical condition.

The incident occurred Saturday around 11.30am, according to the police.

The passengers, mainly mourners, were onboard a Mitsubishi pick-up with registration number
ER 3595-11 and were heading to Adawso from Teacher Mante.

Speaking to Starr News, the police boss Superintendent Yaaya Mushiraru said when they reached a section of the road, the driver attempted to overtake a vehicle, but met an oncoming vehicle so in attempt to avoid a head on collision, veered off the road and somersaulted.

He said the police has launched a search for the driver, who is currently on the run.
