Kwahu South District Assembly received 1.6 billion cedis HIPC fund

Mpraeso (E/R), Aug. 27, GNA- The Kwahu South District Assembly has received 1.6 billion cedis as its share of the Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) fund this year.

Out of the amount, one billion cedis has been spent on poverty eradication projects such as construction of classroom blocks, refuse containers, incinerators and toilets while 600 million cedis has been granted as loans to individuals, groups and organisations. The District Chief Executive, Mr Raymond Osafo Djan, said this at a public forum to launch this year’s Sanitation Week in the district at Mpraeso.

He said the funds will be used to finance a number of development projects in the education, health and sanitation sectors.

Mr Osafo Djan said the Assembly has acquired seven refuse containers for distribution to communities on the Kwahu Ridge at the cost of 215.5 million cedis, building of water closet toilets costing 150 million cedis, while 140 million cedis was spent on sanitation environmental protection and disaster management in the district. The DCE advised Heads of department, Boards and Corporations to keep their offices clean while landlords, tenants, the GPRTU and market women should also tidy up their environment to avoid diseases.
