Govt Bugs No Phones

Sources at the Ghana Telecom (GT) have denied that the government has bugged the telephone lines of certain individuals particularly public figures in order to eavesdrop on their private telephone conversations.

It would be recalled that, in its August 15, edition, the Ghana Palaver carried a story headlined: “Public Warning – Beware…Your Phones are Bugged.”

The publication went on to list ten telephone numbers, which it claimed have been bugged.

According to the sources, the numbers alleged to be used by the unknown agency as published by the Ghana Palaver newspaper have been checked and all found to be pay-phone booth numbers.

The paper has published on the front page the telephone numbers, their location and proof that they are indeed pay phones and not private subscribers numbers.
