Mampong: Police kill brothers

A teacher and his brother have been shot and killed by police over what seems to be a case of mistaken identity at Asante Mampong in the Ashanti region.

The incident happened at dawn on Wednesday February 10, 2016, claiming the life of Francis Deni, a teacher at the Midwifery and Health Assistants Training School (HATS) in the town.

Accra100.5fm’s Kwame Asomani told Chief Jerry Forson on the station’s morning show, Ghana Yensom, Wednesday that the two heard screams for help by an unidentified person who was apparently being robbed.

He said Francis and his brother sped off on their motorbike in the direction of the distress call, only to arrive at the scene to realise there was no such incident.

He said as the two were heading back home, police officers who had also heard the shouts for help and were rushing to the scene in a vehicle, spotted the two on their motorcycle and fired at them, believing they were robbers getting away after a heist.

However, the two died instantly from the gunshots and their bodies have been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital.

The Mampong Police were not immediately available for comment.
