The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the “bloody murder” of its Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North as “shocking.”
The acting national chairman of the main opposition NPP Freddie Blay said the party “is in a state of shock” after Joseph Boakye Danquah was stabbed to death Tuesday dawn at his East Legon residence.
Blay said the death “is an unfortunate situation.”
The police are already investigating the case. Reports say the unknown assailants may have used a ladder to enter the MP’s room via his window to execute their plan. Blay described Danquah as “a very intelligent, hardworking young man and active and all of a sudden no more.”
He said the age-old debate of providing security for legislators in Ghana must be revived.
“It’s long overdue,” Blay told the media at the residence of the murdered lawmaker. “The murder in his house doesn’t appear to be robbery. This is bloody murder.”
The Abuakwa North MP was the grandson of late J.B Danquah, a Ghanaian statesman, pan-Africanist, scholar and historian, who played a significant role in pre- and post-colonial Ghana.
Danquah, a chartered accountant, would have been 51 in July.
He was a deputy women and children’s affairs minister under the John Agyekum Kufuor administration.
Prior to becoming an MP, he was the Executive Director, Automotive Springs (Ghana) Limited, Accra.
He left behind a wife and two children. w
