Ursula in touch with constituents – Aide

Aide to Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West constituency, has said the lawmaker has not lost touch with her constituents, as was being peddled by her opponents.

Mr Stallone Nyarko said the allegations to the contrary by a former constituency chairman and candidate in the upcoming opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) primary in the area, Theophilus Tettey Enyo, were without substance.

In his response to a question by Class News’ Paa Kwesi Parker Wilson Saturday, February 7, 2016, over assertions by Mr Enyo that the incumbent MP had disappointed her constituents and had failed to connect with them, Mr Nyarko said: “The allegation of not connecting to the people does not apply. This is a candidate who, on every single Monday, is directly in her constituency, meeting constituents and listening to concerns and issues they put out.

“The evidence is on the ground…You will see signs of sound development for a new constituency like Ablekuma West …irrespective of the hard times we find ourselves in.”

He dismissed claims that the legislator was not in tune with the concerns and sentiments of the people. The aide said despite being a parliamentarian, Mrs Ekuful’s interest in the welfare of her constituents had seen her involved in meeting “the basic needs of the people”. He cited an instance where the MP’s intervention had ensured that a communal refuse dumpsite at Glefe, which was overflowing with waste and endangering public health, was cleared.

“When you go to her Facebook page, that is her social media page, you realise she answers direct concerns and issues from constituents,” added Mr Nyarko in further support of the MP.

To him, the action of Mr Enyo threatens the chances of the party and is proof he is working for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“…This is somebody who is trying to go on very slippery ground to foil the fortunes of his party, supposedly, in the constituency. And he has shown signs again to confirm rumours that he’s in bed with the ruling NDC. He’s doing the bidding of the ruling NDC, it’s clear,” charged Mr Nyarko.

“This is someone whose inner circle have told people, have told journalists…that they are not going to campaign for the NPP and Honourable Ursula Owusu if she’s elected as candidate of this constituency. This is a candidate whose core campaign team, supporters, have gone to the extent of threatening the flagbearer of the NPP that he is behind certain issues here, and he is pulling strings and they would stop him, the flagbearer, from campaigning if they are not able to hold elections here as soon as possible. We have credible, incontrovertible evidence of such happening. These are all documented; they wrote it on paper.”

Mr Nyarko said aside from making false allegations, the camp of Mr Enyo had gone “to the extent of beating people and engaging in a lot of violent activities”.
