Gunshots in Tamale as NDC youth groups clash over YEA post

Military officials have taken over the Tamale Township after two youth groups with allegiance to the ruling National Democratic Congress clashed during the handing over ceremony of the directorship of the Youth Employment Agency Monday morning.

Sporadic gunshot were reportedly heard in the agitation over the leadership of the agency.

According to Starr News’ Northern regional correspondent Aliasu Tanko, the fight broke out after the two factions each presented their choice of a director as the substantive one is bowing out. They each contend it is their turn to nominate a director since they believe the post was being offered on rotational basis.

Tanko added that it took a combined effort of the military and police personnel in the area to separate the irate groups in the open fight which took place at the premises of the Northern regional coordinating council.

The Youth Employment Agency is government program that offers employment to unemployed youth in the country.
