The leadership of the Assemblies of God Church has said people should not become pastors with the motive of enriching themselves but in obedience to God’s call to work for his kingdom.
The Reverend Dr Paul Henry Dsane, the Assistant General Superintendent of the Church, who said this, explained that, ministers of the gospel whose sole purpose was to become wealthy often got disappointed easily and resorted to ungodly actions to achieve their aims.
He was delivering a sermon at the ordination of nine ministers of the Southwestern Region of the Assemblies of God, Ghana Church, at Takoradi.
The programme, which marked the first regional council meeting of the Southwestern region, was held under the theme: “Understanding the call, a Witness of the Risen Lord”.
Rev. Dr Dsane urged Christians, especially religious leaders, to remain resolute in the face of challenges and be guided by the qualities of Christ Jesus who was the sole saviour of mankind.
They should not be obsessed with acquiring material items, he said.
He urged the newly ordained ministers to carry out their duties in humility, honesty, transparency, and respect for authority; and not to compromise their stance in order to win the trust of their congregation..
The ordained ministers comprise four females and five males.
They are Mrs Hannah Ruth Impraim, Mrs Freda Adams, Mrs Regina Arthur, and Mrs Florence Adjei Piteerrson.
They rest are Pastors Michael Ogloo, Charles Kwesi Ajai, Bernard Etuafo, Eric Sam Oduro and Ebenezer Tetteh.
