Block of classrooms commissioned

Azani (W/R), Aug. 25, GNA – The Very Reverend Kow B. Egyir, Sekondi Diocesan Bishop of the Methodist Church, has said lack of education facilities is seriously affecting the development of some rural areas and the trend could polarise the society.

He said some brilliant children in these communities have no access to tertiary education, thereby depriving the nation of a balanced human resource development.

Rev Egyir was speaking at the inauguration of a 300 million cedis block of six classrooms for the people of Azani in the Ahanta West District. He said the present trend where students from well-endowed schools have greater opportunity to higher education could create an elitist society. Rev Egyir said education is a priority of the Methodist Church and it would not relent on its efforts at providing infrastructure to promote quality education for deprived communities.

He appealed to the teachers and the community to collaborate to ensure that children within the Azani community and beyond patronised the school and maintained a congenial environment for teaching and learning. Receiving the keys to the building Mr James A. Abadoo-Brew, Lay President of the Diocese, said the school building has improved the teaching and learning environment and expressed the hope that the teachers would work hard to improve the academic performance of the pupils.
