Kassena-Nankana District Launches Sanitation Week

Navrongo, August 25, GNA – The District Co-ordinating Director of the Kassena-Nankana District Assembly, Mr John Bosco Atuguba, at the weekend announced that the assembly has considered the institution of a programme to buy polythene waste bags from the public to check the haphazard littering of Navrongo.

He said the modalities involved are complete and the assembly has put in place mechanisms to ensure that pupils are disqualified from the programme.

”It is to avoid situations where children will leave school to engage in the collection of polythene bags.”

Mr Atuguba expressed regret about the inability of the people to access facilities such as the provision of water and the construction of boreholes and KVIPs under the World Bank sponsored urban programmes and said some of the facilities are still available for access.

He said as part of the assembly’s quest to tidy the town the slaughterhouse is being rehabilitated to ensure that only wholesome meat is sold.

Mr Atuguba conceded that the assembly had failed to provide litterbins at vantage places in the town and said that would be done including the search for a waste disposal site.
