Ghana deepens bilateral ties with Italy

Democracy geared towards a stable environment in Ghana and Africa was at the center of the speech rendered in parliament by Matteo Renzi Italian Prime Minister on his working visit to Ghana February 2, 2015.

He announced investments in the country particularly in the energy sector with Italian multinational oil and gas company, ENI till 2036. He also touched on Agriculture as another sector to explore.

As part of Italy’s move to strengthen international cooperation with Ghana, Renzi echoed Italy’s commitment to support peace, security and democracy in Ghana which has regional implications as part of the agenda to foster a strategic and mutually beneficial partnership.

“Peace, Democracy, and Rule of Law is common to Ghana and Italy” concepts that can help curtail violence and terrorism which has implications not only on Ghana, but the entire west African sub region. “We need a new vision for the world to invest in the new generation to focus together with a different strategy to change the world and I believe that democracy is the last form of resistance against violence and terrorism,” he said.

European Union, EU sees Africa as overwhelmed with violence, migration, terrorism etc. but Renzi assured Ghana of Italy’s efforts to project the myriad opportunities in Africa and the need to adopt strategic approach to safeguard the future generation of Africa.

He conclusively challenged Ghana to give opportunities to people and create jobs as a measure to curb migration, human trafficking and uphold human dignity.
